Cobra (Naja naja)
Belongs to the family elapidae. This species is well known and has rich cultural background. So is being considered as a flagship species. This specie is distributed in plains and mid hills of the country but not in the high mountain ranges. Two ‘eye like’ spots on the ventral aspect of the hood and spectacle like marking on the dorsal aspect of thehood are helpful in identifying. Venom is a neurotoxin and cause neuromuscular paralysis and rapid respiratory paralysis. It also cause severe local swallone and wound. This toxin can cause necrosis at any area. The toxin goes through the lymph.
