Gallbladder cancer carcinoma of the gallbladder

Gallbladder cancer is the most common malignant tumor in the biliary tree. This arises from the lining epithelium of the gallbladder and for unknown reasons this cancer is more common in Mexico and Chili. This condition most commonly occurs in the 7th decade of life especially in the females. Gallstones are an important risk factor for gallbladder cancer. But however in Asian countries where parasitic manifestations of the biliary tract are more common this is not very important. It is believed that the continuous irritation and inflammation caused by gallstones or parasitic agents initiate the gallbladder cancer. Carcinogenic material derived from the bile may also play a role.
Most carcinomas of the gall bladder are adenocarcinomas. They are papillary, undifferentiated or poorly differentiated tumors.
