Carcinoma of the gallbladder only diagnosed in 20% of the patients before the surgery. The majority are diagnosed after a cholecystectomy. The major problem is symptoms and signs of gallbladder cancer are almost indistinguishable from the symptoms of gallstones.
Common symptoms are
Abdominal pain
Jaundice
Anorexia
Nausea and vomiting
If the person is fortunate the tumor first blocks the bile duct so symptoms appear before the cancer spread to the other areas.
But sometimes carcinoma of the gallbladder can be diagnosed with a ultrasound scan. In this condition gallstones may co-exist with the abnormalities of the gallbladder wall.
